How To Dye Your Hair a Funky and Wild Color
By Deanna419
For those of you who have a wild side, typical hair colors may bore you. Maybe you don't want to look like everyone else and you would like to stand out in the crowd? Well, what better way to stand out in the crowd then to have your hair a bright or funky color? An odd hair color is typically one of the first things people will notice about you, so if you want to be different and unique, dying your hair may be the first step for you.
You typically can't go to the local drug store and buy purple or pink hair dye like you can "normal" colors. You may have to go to specialty stores such as Sallies Beauty Supply store, Hot Topic, or Spencer's to find funky colored hair dye, or find them online. There are a few brands of pre-made hair dye made for your wild side such as Manic Panic, or Punky Color. These pre-made dyes will cost you around $10 - $15 a bottle, and you may need to buy extra accessories to go with it depending on whether it is ready to go, or you need to mix it with something else. Most of these hair dyes are not permanent, so they may only last a few days, or weeks, depending on your hair type.
You can also make your own hair dye simply and cheaply by using any color of kool-aid.
Here are a few tips for dying your hair a wild color:
Ready to go dye.
- Mix thoroughly through your hair if you are dying your entire head of hair. Make sure to get all of the hair underneath thickly coated, as well. If you are doing streaks of dye, wrap each streak in aluminum foil.
- Wrap in plastic wrap, or aluminum foil.
- Leave on for as long as possible. Even if the bottle says to leave on for 30 minutes, you can leave it on for hours, even overnight.
- Heat with a hair dryer if you have your hair wrapped in aluminum foil. This will essentially "cook" the color into your hair helping it to last longer.
Kool-Aid Hair Dye
- Pick a color that you will enjoy.
- Use 2 - 3 packets of unsweetened kool-aid depending on the length of your hair.
- Mix a small amount of water into the kool-aid mix, just a small amount as you want to make a paste-like substance.
- Add a small amount of hair conditioner to the mixture to make it more of a paste, and also help the kool-aid adhere to your hair.
- Mix into hair thoroughly.
- Wrap in plastic wrap, or foil.
- Let set for as long as possible.
TIPS
- If you have dark hair, especially red hair, use a bleaching kit which can be purchased at any of the above mentioned stores. Follow the directions for bleaching your hair, otherwise the hair dye will not show in your hair.
- Remove hair dye from your skin by using make up remover, or finger nail polish remover.
- Be sure that you are comfortable having your hair a wild color. You may be stared at and even treated different due to your hair color.
