Obesity on the Rise: Who or What Is To Blame?
61Obesity is on the rise and America is becoming one of the fattest countries in the world. Everywhere you look there are overweight people, obese people, and morbidly obese people. What has brought on this rise in the obesity epidemic? Who is to blame for this fatal disorder that is growing on a daily basis? More and more children are obese, and will most likely grow into obese adults. Are the parents to blame? Is society to blame? Is the food to blame?
Believe it, or not, food addiction is another form of an eating disorders. Eating disorders are not just for anorexia, and bulemia. Food addiction has been proven to be worse than a drug, or alcohol addiction, and once a person has an addiction to food, they will struggle with it their entire lives.
Medical problems can also be to blame, but they can't be blamed for everything. There are some people who have a medical condition that causes them to gain weight, or they may be taking medication that causes them to have an increased appetite. Do people with medical problems have any control over their weight?
Let's take a look at some of the possible causes of obesity.
Medical Problems:
- Metabolic Syndrome
- Family History (genetics)
- Hypothyroidism
- Cushing's Disease
- PCOS
- Insulinoma
- Type 2 Diabetes
- Lupus Nephritis
- Reduced Metabolic Rate
Psychological Possibilities:
- Depression
- Comfort Eating
- Overeating
- Physical Addiction
- Eating Disorder
Societal Possibilities:
- Kids playing too many video games.
- Too much TV
- Parental lack of control over what the child eats, or does
- Fast food being the easiest way to eat in this busy day and age
- Physical Inactivity
- Stress

People are the problem. Just because a food item is created doesn't mean its going to be healthy! People must do their homework.
Also, the companies making the easy foods are not making good healthy foods which doesn't help. People want choices and it NOW, NOW, NOW! Fresh and natural is not always possible in that form.
People need to start watching out for themselves. NOT GOVERNMENT!
