Raise Your Child Not To Be A Bully

Having a Baby and Parenting
When you become a parent, your responsibility is to BE a parent; there is more to having a child than making a baby. Kids are popping out babies at a younger and younger age, and not teaching their children right from wrong. When you have a child, you teach your child all sorts of new things; how to read and write, how to ride a bike, how to do all sorts of things, however, one thing many parents forget to teach their children is respect.
RESPECT
Respect is defined as being a formal expression of greeting, esteem and/or friendship; showing a sense of worth for another person, or a consideration. Why is it that more and more children (and adults) tend to lack this simple attribute, along with basic manners?
Some people may think it is difficult to teach a child respect, but it really isn't. Teaching them respect is as simple as sitting down and talking to them about different aspects of respect. Teaching them things such as not talking back to adults and not making fun of other kids just because they may be different. Teach your children to have manners around others and to be kind and considerate of other people's feelings.
If your children do not develop these kinds of manners and skills, they may end up being bullies in school.
It's Not Fun Being Bullied In School
The effect of being bullied in school can last a life time. Your child may think it is funny to call another child names, embarrass them, and belittle them in front of others. This kind of abuse (and yes, it is considered mental abuse) can have a profound effect on a child. Being bullied, taunted and teased can cause a child to do bad in school, to become depressed, and suffer through the long lasting effects for years to come, even causing them problems in personal relationships and friendships.
Why do you think so many kids are shooting other students? Is it because they are just psychotic? Not exactly. It typically stems from being bullied. A child has to go to school every day and face these demons that can tear them down on a daily basis until one day they just snap.
Short Term Effects of Bullying on A Child:
- Depression
- Anger
- More frequent illness
- Suicidal Thoughts
Long Term Effects of Bullying:
- Long lasting feelings of pain and anger
- Difficulty trusting people
- Tendency to be a loner
- Self esteem issues
- Avoidance and fear of social interactions
- High long term stress levels
Do you want your child to be the cause of another child's suffering, or do you want your child to be the kind of kid that gets along with everyone regardless of what they look like or where they come from? Would that make you feel better about yourself and your own parenting skills?
