Stop Spam from Clogging Up Your Email
By Deanna419
Most people get very aggravated when they have hundreds of spam emails to sort through. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to just open your email inbox and have only your important emails show up for you to read?
There are some very simple things that you can do to stop spam from making its way to your email box, and kick them out once they have made it through. It only takes a few minutes of your time and these things can clear your email of the spam clutter that we all dread getting.
For those of you who may not know what spam is, we are not talking about food. We are talking about spam email, which are emails sent to your inbox advertising different products trying to swindle you into signing up for something, or buy something. Most of these emails are unwanted and just get shoved into the trash container. Many spammers purchase our email addresses from other websites that you may have signed up for and that's why you should always check the privacy policy before signing up at any websites unless you want your email address to be sold to these spammers.
Here are a few things you can do to stop spam emails from getting to you.
- Make two separate email accounts. One email account for your personal use, friends and family. Another generic email to use when you are signing up for things, especially if you sign up for freebies, contests, or trials. This way, if the company sells your email address to other companies you won't have to sift through them to get to your personal emails. It only takes a few minutes to set up a generic email on yahoo, or hotmail; it can save you a lot of time in the end.
- Unsubscribe. Advertisement emails are required to include a link somewhere in their email giving you the ability to unsubscribe from their email list. Typically the link is at the very bottom of the email and it is usually in very small type. You may have to look for it, but once you have found it, click on it and unsubscribe yourself. Some may require you to re-enter your email address for verification purposes while others may ask you for the reason why you wish to leave the mailing list. These websites are required to remove you from their mailing list if you request to unsubscribe, and it typically takes 24 - 48 hours. A lot of these emails are linked together and come from the same email database, so my advice is to pick a few emails to unsubscribe from, then wait a day or two to do it again. You should notice a significant decrease in your spam email after doing this a few times. If you keep up with it, even if it's only once or twice a week, you should be able to rid your email of spam.
*Always be sure to check your spam box and make sure that no important emails have gotten lost in the clutter. Sometimes the spam filter will pick up specific email addresses, or phrases and send them straight to the spam box when it is something you are wanting to read. When the happens, just click on the email and there should be a button that says something like, "not spam", and your email client will know not to send them to the spam box the next time.
