Most of us know that the key component to weight loss is watching what you eat and getting up out of the chair to get more exercise. Watching your carbohydrate, fat, and caloric intake can help you lose weight on its own, however getting more exercise will help the process move quicker, while also helping to firm your body so that you won't have as much sagging and excess skin after you lose the weight.

Getting More Exercise

  • Go for a walk. It's really not that difficult to get some extra steps in by going for a walk. Walking is great cardio exercise because as long as you walk a little faster than normal, you are making your heart beat faster. Park away from the front door when you go to work or to the store, and enjoy the walk to the door. Go for a walk on your lunch break, invite a few friends to go with you so that you have someone to talk to while you are walking. Go for a walk after dinner whether it be around your neighborhood, the park or the local reservoir. You can squeeze in 30 minutes or an hour into your day to get a nice long walk in.
  • Use workout videos. If you feel more comfortable working out in your own home, use workout videos. Start out by doing as much as you can in the video, slowly increasing your stamina each time. Do this 3 times a week and eventually you will be able to get through the entire video! Once you get through one video, move on to a new one to change it up a bit. There are so many workout videos out there, you could never get bored.
  • Go for a bike ride. Even if it has been years since you last rode a bike, don't be afraid to try it again. It will all come back to you quickly and you may enjoy taking in the scenery while bicycling around town or through the local park. Take your family along for some special bonding time.
  • Try yoga. Again, you don't have to go to a class to learn yoga. There are all sorts of books and yoga DVDs available to teach you right in the comfort of your own home. The same goes for Pilates as well.
Find some kind of exercise routine that you really enjoy and incorporate it into your daily life. Eventually, they will become routine and be just a part of your daily schedule. You will feel better about yourself, increase your energy, and gain some self confidence especially once the pounds begin to fall off.
